Instructional Team Descriptions

The UC Environmental Stewards program is housed with the UC Agriculture and Natural Resources which itself is a part of the UC system. In order to meet UC requirements and maintain eligibility for the 4 UC credits, our partnering organizations and the instructors identified to deliver our course need to meet specific criteria outlined by the UCD CPE. (we need  documentation on this from CPE here to back up these requirements).

Please review the following terms and definitions relating to your instructional team. Please note that there can be multiple instructors filling the various roles.

1. Approved Lead Instructor - This instructor need to be intimately involved in the crafting of the syllabus and developing the course and be present during co-design meetings with UC ES Staff. The Lead Instructor does not need to be present at all the class meetings as long as one of the people from our approved list below is present at all the classes.

  • Lead Instructor requirements currently stated in our materials:
    • Master degree in related field with teaching experience or Bachelor's degree in a related field with significant lived experience.
    • Applicants are vetted by SMN and GI (with team review) to determine if they meet UC Davis Requirements and able to implement the principles and the requirements of the course.
    •
  • 1. RARE: Approved as Lead Instructor with restrictions [Another word for Restrictions? ...with contributing academic; with contributing educator; with contributing specialist; w_Approved supporting Instructor...]. Two can balance out each others restrictions (very rare) This makes sure that someone comes in to cover their gap in qualifications and we would spell out case by case what those restrictions are). We have an instructor with a lot of lived experience but not able to meet the UC qualifications to be an instructors. please clarify if this sentence applies-->They can teach a course but they must bring in experts to cover a gap in their qualifications.
  •

2. Approved as Supporting Instructor - Approved Supporting Instructors complete the Instructor training but they are not asking to fill out the Application. To be an “Approved supporting Instructor” must go through our training. “Approved supporting Instructor” may also include Instructors with a history of delivering our courses.

  • Note: organizations can have additional Instructors and TAs involved with the course that have not been through our Instructor training and are not in our system as instructors. They may implement course instruction under the leadership of the Lead Instructor or lead Instructor team.
Course Coordinators - no application needed. But we need to know them. They may or may not go through the Instructor Training.
NOTE: TA’s not considered Instructors and they are not required to attend our trainings or complete any sort of application for us.
