Earn your California Naturalist certification on the beautiful Central Coast of California, near Morro Bay. Rich with natural science wonders in forest, field, and shore, you will learn the required natural history basics of the CalNat program with a marine science flourish. The Coastal Institute California Naturalist Program at Camp Ocean Pines is led by Chris Cameron, Executive Director of the camp, and Dr. John Menke, along with passionate expert naturalists and professors in the area. This residential immersion program includes seven days of field trips and lectures from enthusiastic leaders with decades of experience in the field. Food, lodging, materials, and field trip transportation is included in the cost. Upon completing certification requirements, participants are eligible for four academic credits through UC Davis Extension for an additional nominal fee.
Coastal Intensive (Camp Ocean Pines, Cambria)
Discover the intersection of land and sea along the Central Coast! By kayak and by foot, you’ll hear from experts who work with marine mammals, California condors, rocky intertidal invertebrate species, Monterey pine forests, fungus, marine algae, and more! Naturalists will participate in “citizen science” by monitoring and recording scientific data along an established transect in the San Simeon tide pools to add to a long term monitoring project called LiMPETS.
