UC Santa Cruz Arboretum

Course Description

The Arboretum is offering the UC California Naturalists certification program to help you improve your naturalist skills and promote stewardship of California natural communities. The experience overall will provide deeper understanding and appreciation of our interdependence with nature and the imperative need for conservation in our world today. Upon completion, participants will be certified as California Naturalists and offered special opportunities with area parks, organizations, and research. The UCSC California Naturalist Program uses science curriculum, hands-on learning, problem solving, and community service to instill a deep appreciation for the natural communities of the state with an emphasis on the Central Coast Region. All lectures and field trips will be taught by Instructors highly respected in their fields.

Dates: March 30 - June 8, 2024, Thursdays 7:00-9:30pm

Organization Description: The UC Santa Cruz Arboretum is a research and teaching facility committed to plant conservation and serves both the campus and the public. Its rich and diverse collection, containing representatives of more than 300 plant families, provides beginning students with a broad survey of the plant kingdom. Facilities for growing plants offer students and research faculty opportunities to experiment with living plants. The Arboretum maintains collections of rare and threatened plants of unusual scientific interest.
