Coastal Institute at Camp Ocean Pines
Earn your California Naturalist certification on the beautiful Central Coast of California, near Morro Bay. Rich with natural science wonders in forest, field, and shore, you will learn the required natural history basics of the CalNat program with a marine science flourish. The Coastal Institute California Naturalist Program at Camp Ocean Pines is led by Chris Cameron, retired Executive Director of the camp, and Dr. John Menke, along with passionate expert naturalists and professors in the area. This residential immersion program includes seven days of field trips and lectures from enthusiastic leaders with decades of experience in the field. Food, lodging, materials, and field trip transportation is included in the cost. Upon completing certification requirements, participants are eligible for four academic credits through UC Davis Extension for an additional nominal fee.
Camp Ocean Pines was established in 1946 to serve the community as a non-profit camp and a conference center. A jewel on the Central Coast, the camp sits on thirteen donated acres of Monterey Pine forest that nearly meets the ocean shore. The mission of Camp Ocean Pines is to foster enjoyment and appreciation of the natural world among people of all ages through creative activities in a residential camp setting.
