Bridge to Park Careers program (inclusive course within a career development program)
The Mountains Recreation and Conservation Authority (MRCA) will be offering the California Naturalist certification as part of a career development program called “MRCA Bridge to Park Careers”. This 4 month paid training program will provide the knowledge and certifications needed to secure jobs as educators and naturalists with various park agencies. The program is oriented to young adults from urban areas, ages 18-25, who are eager to work in the outdoors.
The MRCA is a full service park agency that was created in 1985. The MRCA manages over 70,000 acres of parkland. Our mission is to protect and preserve park and open space lands surrounding Los Angeles as well as urban natural parks and parks along the Los Angeles River and to ensure that parkland is accessible and welcoming to the public. The MRCA is a joint powers authority between the Santa Monica Mountains Conservancy, the Conejo Recreation and Park District and the Rancho Simi Recreation and Park District.
The MRCA Division of Education and Interpretation is dedicated to connecting visitors to park resources through innovative and inclusive programming. Guided nature walks, traditional campfire programs, special events, outdoor education camp, and outreach programs to bring new audiences to both our urban parks and the open spaces that surround Los Angeles.
Registration for this class is limited to participants already accepted in the MRCA Bridge to Park Careers program. Four academic credits are available from UC Davis Extension for an additional nominal fee.
