Welcome to our ongoing effort to catalog citizen science and other public participation in scientific research (PPSR) projects for UC California Naturalists and other citizen scientists.  We invite you to browse the listed projects or enter key words (like birds, youth, invasive, coast, Alameda, etc.) in the search box above to find projects in your area. It's a great way to stay involved and keep developing your skills as a natural scientist!

A vast majority of the information in the database was gathered from project websites and may be out of date. We encourage you to contact projects directly to get involved and learn about most recent opportunities. If you work with a listed project and would like to add to, update, or correct the information we have, please email cghdixon@ucdavis.edu.     Cultivate a richer understanding of bird habitat, for both professional scientists and people concerned with their local environments.
    1. What practices improve the wildlife value of residential landscapes?
    2. Which of these practices have the greatest impact?
    3. Over how large an area do we have to implement these practices to really make a difference?
    4. What impact do urban and suburban wildlife corridors and stopover habitats have on birds?
    5. Which measures (bird counts? nesting success?) show the greatest impacts of our practices?
  • Participant Activities

    Volunteers collect data by literally drawing maps of their backyards, parks, farms, favorite birding locations, schools, and gardens.

    When volunteers join they are instantly connected to the work of like-minded individuals in your neighborhood, and across the country. They join a conservation community focused on sharing strategies, maps, and successes to build more bird habitat.
