  Scientific questions vary depending on the location, school, and mentoring scientists. Some programs may have purely education and action focus, others collaborate with scientists to gather data that will contribute to professional research.

  The GLOBE Student Climate Research Campaign (SCRC) aims to engage students in measuring, investigating, and understanding the climate system in their local communities and around the world. Drawing on GLOBE protocols and data, as well as other datasets, students take climate-related measurements and investigate research questions about climate.

  GLOBE Field Campaigns are worldwide or regional projects that provide student research experiences to explore and learn about Earth through a network of students, teachers, and scientists. GLOBE field campaigns are grounded in real science embedded in an inquiry-based, collaborative approach.  

  Intensive Observing Periods (IOPs) are focused periods of time where participants are encouraged to collect large amounts of data to be entered in the GLOBE database. Climate Scientists will lead Intensive Obesrving Periods, and both students and scientist can then use the GLOBE data and long-term climate data to conduct climate research investigations.

• Other Information

  Schools and participants in this program link up with scientists in the GLOBE International Scientist Network (GISN), an international network of scientists that work with GLOBE students around the world conducting science. Scientists mentor students and teachers, present scientific ideas, and/or collaborate on scientific research. Each relationship between a scientist and a GLOBE school is different, and is determined by the scientist and the school.
