  2. To collect valuable water quality information about Lake Tahoe and its watershed
• Participant Activities

  Volunteer monitoring teams will go out to various monitoring sites to perform a stream walk (visual assessment), collect field data, grab samples and take photos.  Streams will be field tested for dissolved oxygen, conductivity, pH, and temperature.  Water samples will be taken back to central meeting locations and measured for turbidity, nutrients and fecal coliform bacteria.

  Volunteer interested in volunteering to lead a group of citizens can visit the Team Leader page. This is great experience for school classes and career development. Each Team Leader will be in charge of collecting samples at 1 or 2 sites.  They will lead a team of approximately 4 volunteers out to the site and show them proper sampling techniques.

  All necessary equipment will be provided.

• Volunteer Training

  Team leaders are required to attend a 2 hour hands on training that will go through the details of the monitoring techniques of Snapshot Day.

  Data may be used for restoration projects, monitoring, and the collaborative effort to protect the watershed from further degradation.
