Welcome to our ongoing effort to catalog citizen science and other public participation in scientific research (PPSR) projects for UC California Naturalists and other citizen scientists.  We invite you to browse the listed projects or enter key words (like birds, youth, invasive, coast, Alameda, etc.) in the search box above to find projects in your area. It's a great way to stay involved and keep developing your skills as a natural scientist!

 Project Purpose (taken from project materials) Protect and enhance wildlife at the proposed Alameda National Wildlife Refuge; Build public support for creating the refuge and to ensuring the long-term survival of species that depend upon its habitat, including the endangered California Least Tern and Brown Pelican

 Participant Activities Committee volunteers work with biologists to monitor wildlife populations at the refuge, sponsor tern research projects, and build community awareness about the site

 Other Participant Activities Volunteers can help restore habitat for California Least Terns and other shorebirds on more than 500 acres of land at the former Alameda Naval Air Station. The committee organizes monthly work parties to create Least Tern nesting sites and remove invasive weeds.
