Brief course description Deepen your experience of the natural world through close looking and reflection with artist Michelle Antonisse. We will learn the history and methodologies of field journaling (recorded observations of nature), and experiment with our own practice through facilitated and open ended exercises. There will be informational lectures, sketching lessons, group activities, a field trip to oberve the Elephant Seals at San Simeon, evening campfires, and of course solo time in nature. MichelleAntonisse teaches at MOCA (Museum of Contemporary Art), Angels Gate Cultural Center and the Norton Simon Museum. She is also a certified California Naturalist and former Artist in Residence at Camp Ocean Pines. Her own art deals with the human relationship to the natural world, the process of creating narratives and of trying to understand nonhuman stories through a human lens.
